Our Bio

Silence: an auditory status that represents emptiness. We as individuals are sometimes bound to this negative phenomenon in an effort to maintain harmony. However, without resonance, change cannot exist and, therefore, life cannot improve.

The members of Glendale, Arizona band The Sounding believe they can aid in breaking the silence that often times consumes our lives; and it is through the gospel of Jesus Christ that they prepare their transmission. “My hope is that lives can be transformed for Christ’s sake and that our music can bring others closer in their walk with Him,” states lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Patrick Kallestad, who was one of the founding members when the band was formed in 2006.

Shortly thereafter, founding member, songwriter, lead guitarist and background vocalist Ron Alexander was added and the two began working on songs with inspirational melodies and lyrics and rock-infused hooks.

After adding drummer Steve Gross and keyboardist Andy Naish, The Sounding signed with indie-label Spirit Entertainment Records and received an opportunity to record at the Dark Horse Studios in Franklin, Tennessee with established Curb Records artist and producer Jamie Slocum, whom Patrick had attended high school with. “It was a tremendous experience working with Jamie and I am so pleased with how professional these songs came out,” says Patrick.

With the recent addition of bassist and background vocalist Paul “Pab” Smith, The Sounding is now gearing up to begin playing shows across the U.S. and around the world. They are fortunate to be the official worship band of ReignDown USA (reigndownusa.com) which is a national prayer and worship movement whose focus is on repentance and bringing Christ back to the center of our blessed nation. Many of the members also help lead worship at Community Church of Joy (joyonline.org) in Glendale, Arizona.

With many influences like The Beatles, U2, Switchfoot, The Police, Peter Gabriel, Oasis, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Eagles, Crosby, Still’s, Nash and Young, Tom Petty and Queen the band considers their musical style an epic infusion that is all their own.

Their first single, a ballad called Farewell, will be hitting the airwaves soon and contains the somber, yet uplifting message of Christ’s love for us. “Farewell gives me comfort in knowing that all will be ok when we leave this world,” says drummer Steve Gross, “because we are trading this world for eternity with our Creator.”

In their song Gracetown, The Sounding declares how God’s grace should comfort us when we’re at our weakest. “Gracetown was inspired when I was going through a personal struggle in my life. I had made a lot of mistakes but fortunately I knew that God was more willing to stand by me at that moment than any other time. What a great place to be…” explains Patrick. Opening with the familiar line, “I once was lost, but now I’m found” from Amazing Grace, Gracetown proclaims that we can’t do it ourselves and have to rely on God’s help to overcome the trials and tribulations we face daily.

With a busy year ahead, The Sounding couldn’t be more excited about their future together. “We are so fortunate to have this opportunity to serve God and spread His love with what we love to do,” says keyboardist Andy Naish, “it will be a remarkable experience and adventure.” Stay tuned...
